Question 3: Facebook Likes and Friends

Q: Robyn

I'm not having a lot of success increasing my facebook
likes...partly because I've tried adding the 5 new people a day, I
joined a group and so I was drawing from that
list, but I always get if you don't know these people don't friend
request?  Is this normal if I'm a member of that group? I didn't want
to get banned...any suggestions

A: Lisha

For some reason the first likes on Facebook are the hardest to get. People don't want to Like something that isn't already popular. People are strange. They're all followers. No one thinks for themselves. They look to others to gauge whether they should like something or not. That's not how it should be, but that's how it is. I looked at your Facebook page and I had to unlike it to see what you had on your Welcome page for non-fans (by the way, good job on creating your welcome landing page :) I'm glad you were able to get that set up. However, I do see a bit of an issue that could give you a higher possibility for getting more Likes. The main point of the welcome landing page is so that when people are not a fan, when they click to go to your Facebook page, or when they type in your facebook page, they will be automatically redirected to your non-fan welcome landing page.

Now there are two things you need to do on your Facebook page:

1. Make your Welcome page the landing page that people land on

To do that, go to your facebook page wall and click on "Edit Page"

Next in the left sidebar, you will see "Manage Permissions" Click on that.

Then where you see "Default Landing Tab" select from the dropdown menu "Welcome" so make that your landing page.

Make sure you click "Save Changes". That's it.

If you're a visual person, there is a video Pat Flynn made about this. Go to this youtube link and fast forward to 10:30 in the video and he'll explain this through the video so you can see it:

2. You need to give people an incentive to like your page.

This will just make it more likely for people to Like your page.

When you're on your own facebook page, you can click your welcome page and edit it however you wish (I know you know how to do this because there is something on both your fan and non-fan welcome landing page).

The best thing to do is to create an eye-catching image that tells people to click the Like button and they'll get some sort of thing that makes sense for your niche (which I'm guessing would have something to do with fashion).

You're starting the part of the ecourse where you create a free gift for people and a product for purchase, whether that be an actual object, an ebook, or a service. I see you have artwork and jewelry for sale already, so that's good. When you build an email list you will be able to remind those people through email that they can check out your jewelry and artwork to buy from you. So, now think of something that your Facebook fans can get from you. Maybe write up a creative 7-8 page  guide on something that has to do with fashion or creativity. Something with a twist. Like, "How to live your life in style" or "How to set your creativity free so you can create masterpieces." I don't know, just things I'm rambling off the top of my head. You know what you'd like to talk about or help people with. Just make sure the title is something that makes people want to read it. The title you choose is very important for free ebooks, paid ebooks, and blog posts.

So I'd suggest a digitial product like a mini ebook guide thing, because it's easy to deliver online, you can even just post it all on your fan welcome page, or you can have a link to an online pdf you created and uploaded to your website. You will learn more about this as you go further into the ecourse.

The other tip I wanted to give you was to create your facebook page url more personal for you... here's how you do it:

Go to http://facebook.com/username

Select your personal profile username

Then select your facebook page username.

It's pretty simple. This way your facebook page could be http://www.facebook.com/pagename instead of http://www.facebook.com/pages/pagename/272738416104946

As for getting Facebook friends, yes, it's true that Facebook often gives the warning that you need to be friends with a person before you ask to be friends with them. That is just a warning that Facebook gives everyone if you've been asking a number of people to be friends, no matter who you're requesting friendship from. That is one of the reasons why I tell you to only add 5 friends a day on Facebook (to avoid the Facebook police radar).

When you request someone's friendship, they can say that they don't know you and this sends an alert to facebook that you may be spamming (adding random people as friends). So just don't request too many friendships each day and try to be wise about who you request friendships from.

This is the reason why I tell you to add mutual friends or friends from a group you've joined. Another thing that may help is to message the person right after request their friendship. Tell them how you found them and a reason why you would want to be friends. Example: "Hi (first name), I found you through the Home and Garden group and I just wanted to be friends with like minded people. Go ahead and accept my friend request :) Hope you're having a great day! ~your name"

I personally don't tend to write people a message when adding them as a friend, but it could help. If you are adding people from a group, and you've been a visible poster on the group page, they will most likely recognize you and accept your friend request. But keep in mind that some people, no matter how awesome you are, do not want to be friend with people they don't know, and that's just the way it goes, and that is just fine.

If you're adding friends from a group, it may be best to periodically post things on the group page (like links to your latest blog posts for instance) that way you stay visible to other group members. Whatever you do, though, do not spam the group page ALL the time with your blog links. Maybe every other time, post your blog link, and every other time, say something different. Also, interact with others who are posting things on the group page, then you can add those people as friends as you interact with them (this is probably the best way).

If you are adding friends of mutual friends, you can also message them and say that you noticed that you have 40 mutual friends and you felt that maybe you should be friends too. Keep it light. Don't act creepy or stalker-ish.

Question 4: YouTube Tips

Q: Robyn

I have a youtube channel which I'm going to begin using, doing
more vlogging and linking it to my blog...any suggestions any good
info on vlogging?

A: Lisha

I'm really excited that you've started YouTube without me telling you about it because you're already started. Very coincidental: You are on Week 8 next week and that is the week I talk a lot about adding videos on YouTube, and also embedding them into your blog posts.

Make YouTube videos with the link to your blog, or a relevant blog post. This can get you more traffic. So it is great that you are already starting that!

My suggestions for videos:

1. Just to be you in the videos.

2. Offer something of value, either information or entertainment.

3. Make sure you put your link in the top line of the description (include http:// or the link won't be clickable).

4. Your videos do not have to be awesome. It can just be you talking to the camera. Or it can be words on the screen and you're just reading them - Background music maybe.

5. Since you are in the fashion niche, you can do fashion videos. Whoever is taking those picture of you when you're modeling your clothes, have that person film you in a video with your outfit and you can describe what you did and why you made those choices.

6. You can even make a video about what you're offering on your facebook page in exchange for Facebook Likes.

The sky is the limit as far as ideas for videos go. I think that's enough ideas for now. I am actually soon going to study YouTube marketing (through 5dollarmoneybomb) and I will have more to offer you as far as YouTube tips and hopefully getting more people to see your videos and therefore, going to your blog. You will also be learning more as you go along in the ecourse (we have an entire 52 weeks to get through!)
